The Courage to Commit to Joining the Conversation, by Torin Lee
If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.
― Desmond Tutu
I am a black woman, living in America, and it’s beyond painful that I need to continue to address racism and explain WHY it is so harmful and inhumane. Racism is the cancer that has plagued this country since 1619 when the very first settlers brought with them enslaved African souls. It is our collective cancer; that over the decades we treat just enough so it doesn’t kill us until we go back to smoking those cigarettes which caused it in the first place. Yet it grows and although it has not killed America it has murdered our founding principles and executed many of its citizens.
Yet, here we stand in 2020, the year whose number supposedly represents perfect clarity of vision; back where we started… or as many people of color see it, where we have always been.
What can you do about this, now, to help shift the flow of energy once and for all?
Leverage your privilege and power by SPEAKING YOUR TRUTH. Do not wait any longer. Trust me, whatever you have been afraid of losing by speaking out has already been lost, or was never possessed by those you can serve.
Welcome to the revolution my brothers and sisters – we have been waiting for you. Together we can create a better nation. The time is NOW.
Know that the spirit of all those who have come before you unite and support you in being bold and speaking out
3 Easy Steps to Speaking Your Truth (AKA Joining the Revolution):
Awareness. Anytime you feel stifled or hesitant to respond to a comment—it means you’re blocking your voice and giving your power over to others (doing what you think is expected at the expense of your wellbeing). STOP. TAKE 3 deep breaths. IMAGINE the relief you will feel once you speak up. Then… say what you need to say.
Just Do It – You are Uplifted by the Universe. Know that the spirit of all those who have come before you unite and support you in being bold and speaking out. Every time you speak your truth it gets easier and your throat chakra will strengthen.
Trust Your Intuition. Your higher self will guide you and let you know when it’s time. PAY ATTENTION. Sometimes this voice is only a whisper in your mind; or a sensation in your body urging you to act. LISTEN… to others involved in the conversation. Understanding their perspective will guide you in how best to use your voice to raise the vibration and enter the dialogue from a place of love and compassion.
Speaking your truth isn’t always easy. It’s a skill that needs to be learned and practiced. Now is the time. I look forward to feeling your collective contributions to the cause.
